The SeaWolves dropped their third straight game to the Akron Aeros on Wednesday night at Canal Park by a score of 5-1.

Erie struck first in the top of the first inning against Akron starter Connor Graham. Andy Dirks and Cale Iorg drew back-to-back walks to start the game. With one out, Casper Wells walked to load the bases. Alex Avila grounded home Dirks giving the 'Wolves a 1-0 lead.

Akron struck back in the bottom of the third to take the lead for good against Erie starter Jonah Nickerson. With one out, Cristo Arnal and Jose Constanza hit back-to-back singles putting runners on the corners for Jerad Head. Head grounded to the short stop Iorg who retired Constanza at second. On the relay to first, Head was called safe allowing Arnal to score, tying the game at 1-1. Nick Weglarz then walked to set up two runners on base for Carlos Santana. Santana doubled home two for a 3-1 Akron lead. Beau Mills then doubled home Santana for a 4-1 lead.

The score would remain the same until the bottom of the seventh. With two outs, Arnal doubled for his second hit of the game and he scored on a base hit by Constanza for a 5-1 lead.

Erie's offense struggled for the third straight game on the road trip as the club mustered just four hits against four Akron pitchers. Dirks and Michael Bertram each had singles while Jeff Kunkel had his fifth multi-hit game of the season with a pair of base knocks.

Wells career-high 16-game hitting streak came to a end as he went 0-for-3 with a walk.

The loss dropped the 'Wolves to six games behind the first place Aeros in the EL South. The club's road struggles also continued as they are now 20-30 away from Jerry Uht Park.

Erie has dropped three straight for the first time since losing a season-high seven consecutive games June 24-29.

The SeaWolves will look to avoid the series sweep on Thursday night at Canal Park...7:05 First Pitch.
